Corral Day 2002

This year's Corral Day, held in Bowling Green, KY, was a blast! This is my second time to go, but my first time to do any serious racing.

As soon as I got to Bowling Green, the first thing I did was go to the dyno at Total Engine Airflow. god it was hot as hell in there! my dyno sheet had the temperature as 93 degrees and it sure felt like it, even with the huge fans blowing in there. I made two pulls.. the first one i let off the gas when my tach said 6000.. i was surprised to hear that the dyno only read 4800 rpm! take note of that if you are using your stock tach still. i have heard in the past that they are a little off, but i had no idea that they were THAT fast! i have a shift light that I will be installing shortly for this reason. I am happy with the numbers of 302rwhp and 318rw torque. I think that maybe with some tuning it could make more power since all I did was get a baseline. Here is my air/fuel ratio.. rich up top. I will go back to the dyno when I can have some time to tune, and try to wring out a few more hp. The tune was 42psi fuel and 18 degrees of base timing.

After the dyno, i took Ian (Blk88GT) back to the campground and set up my tent, etc. after showering at the campgrounds, Camp Canada went to Fazolis and ate some dinner... good stuff. We left there around 8:45 and headed to the Auto Zone parking lot where there were about 4 Mustangs already. A small group of us pulled in and sat around while the Canadians rummaged through Vauto Zone. it didn't take long for the parking lot to fill up with some bad ass mustangs. Blown Mustangs, nitroused mustangs, a sweet Cobra with a 5.4 in it, an 82 GT with full Griggs suspension and an aluminum 347.. a ton of nice cars. we hung there and then left a few hours later.. back the campground to witness teabagging and to party until 4 am.

Saturday morning was killer.. 3 hours of sleep and it was starting to get hot. I went and got some breakfast, and then headed to the track. My friend and I changed tires from the Cobra Rs to my Welds, and i was off to race. Here's how I did:

These runs were made in 97 degree heat! I know that on a cold night, I can hit 12.40s easily. I let the car cool for about 45 minutes to an hour between every run.. it was pretty consistant, and I think I can be quicker with a little more aggressive driving (powershifting), harder launches (I was launching at 4000) and some minor suspension work. I know there's more in it, im just scared about breaking stuff.. still have stock axles/studs/T5, so I am babying it until I get the good parts that I want. Overall I am happy with the numbers.
